Grey County Tourism

Hello All!  I have had such a busy year that I have fallen behind in just about everything, so I will be making an effort (no promises lol) to get caught up and keep everyone updated.

My newest news is the addition of a few of my photos to the Grey County Tourism Winter Waterfalls and Hiking Campaign.  Photos will be displayed on their website (link above) and if a few possible prints coming in January. Keep an eye out for them, I know that I will be!

Hope everyone had an amazing and safe Christmas, and cheers in the New Year.

Lakeside Daisy

The Lakeside Daisy is a small plant in the aster family.  Bright yellow flowerheads are produced in early spring and produce a gorgeous display when in groupings.  Also known as Manitoulin Gold, on Manitoulin Island.

The Lakeside Daisy is mainly found in alvar habitats in the Great Lakes region. Alvars are shallow soil covered limestone bedrock.  You can typically see plants and trees growing in the cracks of the limestone.

This species is globally rare but locally common in Ontario, where some populations consist of thousands of plants.  I love the trillium, but would love to see this as a Provincial flower as well.

The Lakeside Daisy is found only in the Great Lakes region.
Lakeside Daisy is considered threatened under Ontario's Endangered Species Act.

These photos were taken at the Bruce Alvar Nature Reserve.

Military Macaw

I find these birds to be just so vibrant and colourful, I can`t take my eyes off of them.  They are super smart too, making them very trainable.  Just wanted to share this guy and all of his beautiful plumage.  I am fascinated by his feathers, how they look so soft and delicate.

Southern Most Tip of Canada

I am happy to say that I recently stood at the southern most tip of Canada.  It was a super foggy day, but we still had fun.
The waters looked so calm, and yet everywhere we went we read signs saying how dangerous the currents were under the calm.  Best to be cautious anyway!

Hillman Marsh

So Serena(Campcrazy Photography) and I decided to hit Point Pelee this year.  I have never been.  Along the way we stopped at Hillman Marsh.  This is a gorgeous wetland area, with lot's of wildlife.  I have never seen fish so big jumping in the water.   We were rained on twice while we were here, but we still had a blast.  Going south in the spring is all about the birds.
My highlight of the day was catching a Chestnut Sided Warbler.  This was my fist time seeing this pretty little fellow, and I was very happy to get some photos of him.
All in all it was a great day.
FYI, Serena makes a mean salmon sandwich on cheese buns, yummm, they were sooooo good.

A little bit of Spring!

Well I have to say that our weather around here has been just ridiculous.  It is freezing one day and 18 the next.  Very strange, and zero consistency.  I was so happy when I saw the snow melt, and these little showy fellows pop up through the leaves.
Some spring crocus and snowdrops to renew hope in the heart.

A little poetry today!

By the river

 By the river I stand
Waves amass together with ease
Along the river banks sand
With little ripples as they please
How fascinating, these waves really tease!
Bestowing upon me a quiet sense of peace
As the tension in my muscles release

Watching with a shiver
I gaze with marvel at the river
For I am an avid believer
There is more than life it delivers

This feeling is mutual
The river signifies something spiritual
Right down below it is factual
Life form continues to mature and grow
And whilst the river flows
Who knows what life holds for us tomorrow

Time fly's when you are growing up!

Ethan and Eli

These boys belong to a good friend of mine.  Super cute boys, and it just seems as though they are growing so fast.

When I thought back, I realized that I had these guys behind my lens several times throughout the last few years, so I decided to show a timeline.  Here you go!

Slow Start

Wow, that resolution went right out the window right after I wrote it down lol!  I fell off the "Resolutions" wagon.  Now that I am done blaming that rickety cart, the darn horse that spooked, the farmer who overloaded it, the government for not maintaining the roads properly, I will accept responsibility for my own actions.  I am jumping back on the wagon and we will give this another go.

This week is a special request.  Recently someone asked me for some specific images.  They wanted some religious/spiritual photos with a dark twist.  This is what I have put together for them.  I had fun doing this (like I always do) but it's nice to have someone challenge your comfort zone, and make you think "outside of the box".

Let me know what you think!
